ROUNDTABLE TOP STORIES OF 2010
HELLO. I'M RICHARD AGER. WELCOME TO NH OUTLOOK. IT'S THAT TIME AGAIN TO REVIEW AND PUT IN PERSPECTIVE THE TOP NH STORIES OF THE YEAR.
JOINING US AT THE STATE LIBRARY IN CONCORD, WE HAVE
NORMA LOVE of the ASSOCIATED PRESS
KEVIN LANDRIGAN OF THE NASHUA TELEGRAPH
TOM FAHEY OF THE NEW HAMPSHIRE UNION LEADER
AND JOSH ROGERS OF NH PUBLIC RADIO.
VIDEO SOURCES FOR TOP STORIES SHOW:
1: Election night coverage video - 20 seconds of election night Republican triumphs - Ayotte, Guinta, Bass
2; Health Care Obama Bite: Obama Nashua Disk 2/2/2010: 15:22:30 No one should be satisfied with a system that allows insurance companies to deny care to folks with pre-existing conditions, or to kick people off their plans when they get too sick. No one should accept a system where small businesses are forced to pay outrageous premiums to get their workers covered, and seniors have big gaps in their Medicare prescription coverage. No one should accept another decade in which health insurance premiums double and millions lose their coverage altogether. These are the things I hear about every day in the letters I get - from families going bankrupt; from small businesses crushed by their health care costs. So I won't walk away from these efforts. I won't walk away from these people. And I don't think Congress should either. I think we should keep working to get this done - Democrats and Republicans together - let's get it done this year."
Also could use Cutaway from Richard's desktop over intro to Obama….
3: SB500 Bite: Outlook Show #1618 3:54 into the show DID YOU FEEL THE PEOPLE IN THE PRISON HAD PREPARED YOU FOR THAT DAY? No, I don't. The focus on me when I was in prison was to work on may anger management, which they did, and to work on my alcohol and drug abuse, which they did. But to prepare me to get out into the real world or to deal with society. Not at all. 4:17
4: Gay Marriage bite: Tape OL228 near top of Civil Union Story in Show #1482 Neil and Jeffrey - you have come to the Notchland Inn to be joined in a legal civil union. Such a commitment symbolizes the sharing of two lives yet the sharing must not lessen but enhance the individuality of each partner.
5: Granny D bite: Near end of piece on Outlook Show #1602 "Being free means that you have a voice in your own government. Being free means that no powerful interests have stolen your vote from you in your Congress or anywhere else. It means that you are personally a part of a self government of a great and free people. That is what is at stake in these matters, your freedom. So you defend your freedom in your own way and you participate as a free citizen in the affairs of your town. If you are only a tax payer, only a consumer, only another driver on the highway or face in the crowd who lets others decided the future for them, then you are an ant, when you could be a king."
6: Gregg farewell
http:/www.unionleader.com/article.aspx?headline=Gregg+says+goodbye+to+the+Senate&articleId=f49d19d6-c1f3-4565-82f7-9d5910e04b25
Bite: From Youtube Gregg Farewell speech 13:05 We play politics in this city and in this country between the 40-yard lines, for all intents and purposes. We are not the government that ever moves too radically left or radically right. And that's the way it should be. In this institution, compromise is required. To govern you must reach agreement. We are 300 million people, obviously of a diverse view. If we're going to govern 300 million people, we must listen to those who have legitimate views on both sides of the aisle. So, as I leave this chamber I just want to say this, simply: It has been a huge honor to have the chance to serve here. 13;52
